Every year during Catholic Education Week, the Archdiocese of Toronto recognizes the dedication of Catholic teachers, students, parents, staff and everyone who supports Catholic education. Catholic education offers a wonderful opportunity to pass the faith onto another generation and to teach values that will serve people well for the rest of their lives.

This year’s Catholic Education Week theme is, “Igniting Hope,” which is inspired by Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will preside over a special province-wide Mass to celebrate Catholic Education Week on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, starting at 10 a.m. The Mass will be livestreamed on the St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica’s website.

Cardinal Collins has also recorded a special message for Catholic Education Week, in which he tells us, “That’s really what Catholic education is all about: it lifts us beyond ourselves and sends us out to serve our neighbour and, in doing that, to serve our Lord God.”

“I’m deeply grateful for the work of all of those engaged in Catholic education,” said Cardinal Collins. “In the different ways in which they serve and make Catholic education a bright, shining diamond in the midst of the darkness in which we are currently going through.”
